Council Meeting 8/21
Confirmed the appointment of Chad Ronchetti as Director of Planning and Economic Development for the City of Duluth
Approved School Resource Officer (SRO) contract with ISD 709
Approved the purchase of 15 2023 Dodge Durango Police vehicles (originally were going to be hybrids, but supply chains have pushed this out beyond the time we need these vehicles)
Approved the Hillside Sport Court Plan
Proposed Mayoral Budget-
I’ve attached the budget below for your consumption. Some highlights if you don’t want to read the presentation. Decreased tax payments to the city if your home evaluation doesn’t increase. A reminder that the city is the smallest portion of your property tax bill. A $175k home will see a decrease of $51 a year and a $350K home a decrease of $136. Check out the presentation and let me know if you have any questions. The maximum levy needs to be set by the last day in September. Council can increase this amount or decrease it, but once it becomes October the levy can’t be increased. The budget is then passed in December.
Arbitrary Parking Mandates
A year ago I requested the Planning Commission to explore eliminating arbitrary parking mandates. Here is an update on their work plus here is an opinion piece that I wrote on the topic.
Duluth Round-Up
The Duluth Transit Authority (DTA) has launched its new routes and service is free for the first two weeks! I’ve taken the bus and so far the schedules work out a lot better for my schedule. Maybe catch you on the blue line!

Ordinance Modernization Task Force
I started a task force to go over all of the ordinances in the city code and weed out, outdated language and ordinances. An intuitive and modern regulatory environment is important to how cities function and how citizens operate within that framework. The task force is soliciting feedback on our work to date.
