New format, same boring news!
Council Meeting 1/23 and 2/13
On the 23rd the Council took these actions-
Appointed several community members to various boards and commissions
Approved various liquor licenses
Approved the 2023 Action Plan and HUD Request- these are the programs funded by Emergency Service Grants (ESG) Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) and HOME Program (HOME).
Renewed the joint powers agreement with MN DEED to provide staffing to the Duulth CareerForce Center
Purchased 9,500 tons of road salt
Purchased property from BSNF Railway in the Irving Neighborhood to extend the Cross City Trail
Passed a resolution to extend the one-half of one percent sales tax to be used for Duluth Athletic Facilities. The legislature still needs to take action on this.
On the 13th the Council took these actions-
Appointed several community members to various boards and commissions
Approved funding to improve safety at the Tech Villiage parking ramp
Approved funding for the Alhambra Theater in West Duluth in the amount of $150,000
Renewed a contract with the DECC to manage and operate Bayfront
Approved the new Emerald Ash Borer Management Plan

I made a promise to not run after being appointed and I have kept that promise
Tourism in Duluth hit a record high in 2022

As a two-time Duluth city councilor, now in my final year of service, one of my goals is to make city government more accessible, or at least help citizens become more informed. I figure there are a lot of Duluthians who would like some simple answers to some simple questions. I learned in school that if there is something you don’t understand it’s likely there are many others who feel the same way. Hence the idea of the Duluth Mailbag column. I just launched my first feature over at Perfect Duluth Day last week.
